It was so nice the couple of days that we were at Ron's mom's house, we went to the park both days...the boys had fun and so did Chip being able to walk around...poor guy gets around pretty good for being 15 in October and blind...he always enjoyed going to the park. I remember when he was a pup and we had Scamper who was slowing down and Chip would just run circles around Scamper. Well, now Chip is the one that isn't moving quite so fast anymore, but he still has moments of energy, not quite ready to let him go just yet.

Playing with their second cousin

The boys and I went back to Nebraska to visit my brothers and their families over the Thanksgiving weekend. The boys got to play with their second cousin who is 20 months old. She was trying to give Alex a hug and he didn't want to have anything to do with it as Ryan was holding him down...then toward the end he let her give me a hug, but they were facing the other direction.

Putting up the Christmas Tree

We're starting to put up our Christmas tree so that it is ready to be lit right after Thanksgiving. The boys did an excellent job of putting the ornaments on all by themselves!

Regional Track Meet

We're back again in Carmel, IN for the regional track meet. This time kids from Indiana and Illinois came to compete. The day was cooler, windier and misty in the air as we arrived and were getting warmed up. None of Ryan's buddies decided to come back, one went to the meet in WV today and the other just had other things to do, so Ryan was on his own. But he knew the coarse now...Ron stayed with him at the start...couldn't miss him in his florescent orange hunting stocking cap! We all ran up the hill to cheer him on as he came up the hill a little over half way through the first lap. Alex and I ran back down the hill to cheer him on as he came around the starting line for the second and final lap. Dad staying up the hill to encourage him at the end. Even though the weather conditions were a little worse than two weeks ago, Ryan finished 11 seconds faster in 14th place. He got a medal again and qualified to go to the national meet in Myrtle Beach in December...maybe in a few years we'll go.

Another Boiler Bridge Walk with Friends

Two weeks in a row the Purdue Boilermakers have a home football game and so another bridge walk...some friends met us there and we played for awhile on the bridge, elevator and stairs...who knew they could be so much fun!

Riding bikes on the new driveway

The boys are enjoying having a smooth, safe place to ride their bikes without leaving the house...of coarse Ryan is having way too much fun leaving skid marks at the end when he stops! And yes, we need to work on getting those training wheels off, Alex might ride a two wheeler before Ryan does at the rate we are going!

Santa has Arrived!

Believe it or not Santa arrived today in Lafayette...go figure, I guess he has all the toys made...pretty soon he will just stick around all year! He arrived in a firetruck this year. Alex was just a little bit excited...can you tell? Ryan didn't want to have anything to do with him, until he gets his Christmas list finished!

Boiler Bridge Walk

The boys love going to the bridge walks for the Boilermaker football team. They really don't care about anything but giving the players high fives! Tonight they were giving out little backpacks, I think we ended up with 6 or 7. The players kept handing one to Alex and he would give it to Ron, so I think they thought he didn't get one yet. At least we got some for our friends that were stuck in traffic and didn't make it on time.

Leave it to Alex...he doesn't hold back when he thinks of something. Today after the track meet, we went to lunch at Steak N Shake. Normally, we all get so many french fries that we can't eat them all, so Ron and the kids ordered meals that included fries and I just ordered a sandwich. I think the second or third time I took a fry from Alex's plate he looked at me and with a straight face said, "if you wanted some french fries why didn't you order some?"

State Track Meet

Ryan qualified for the regional track meet that his club was going to, but it is in West Virginia - about 900 miles from here - maybe we won't travel that far just yet! We found out that he could compete in the state track meet in Carmel, which is just 60 miles away - we can do that! I think he was a little nervous, but Ron helped him know the trail before it started and stayed with him at the start, plus a couple of his buddies were racing too which helped. The course was hilly which he wasn't used to, but he still finished in 10th place out of 18, with a time of 10:24 for 2K and qualifies to come back to the regional meet in two weeks!

Monon Train Museum Again

We went to the Monon Train Museum again with one of my other homeschooling groups...I think the gentleman was a little nervous and so was I. I am not sure how much the kids got out of it, they were more running around and playing.

Trick or Treating with Friends

We went to our friends house to trick or treat...there were tons of kids out this year, maybe because of the nice weather.

Tonight for track practice, the coach had them all run around the track for 30 minutes. They could walk if necessary, but the goal was to see how far they could run...Ryan ran 3 1/4 miles in 30 minutes.

Trunk or Treat at Church

We had trunk or treat at church tonight...the weather made for a quick walking around - maybe it should be named the fastest trick or treating in the city. The wind picked up and it started to rain a bit, so everyone finished and went inside the hall for punch and popcorn. Alex ditched his Yoda costume for spiderman - although a bit small.

We are in the process of getting our sidewalks and driveway poured...the boys had to go check it out after their bath. At least they covered the important parts - head, hands and feet!

First basketball game this year

We literally went from the end of soccer season to the beginning of basketball season. Ryan had his last soccer game of the fall season this morning at 11:30, then a pizza celebration party, to his first basketball game at 1:45. His soccer team went undefeated and no goals scored against...pretty good season!

Boo at the Zoo

Tonight was Boo at the Zoo...it was cold and overcast. Last night was rained out and it rained some this morning, windy and then turned cooler. Dad voted to go tomorrow night which was forecast to be warmer and a little sunny when it started, but the boys and I voted for tonight...guess who won? In the end it was probably a wise choice, the wind died down, so it really didn't seem that cold and there weren't very many people there. It was the least amount of people that we have seen in the three years that we have been going. We rode the enchanted train first...there were people along the way acting out nursery rhymes...Alex wasn't so sure it wasn't a little scary! Then the boys played some games and then the costume contest...it was by age, Alex was in the 0-3 and they announced a winner and then they said 'and also Yoda'. Ryan then wanted to play a few more games while Alex wanted to ride the helicopter and horses...he really enjoyed...last year he was almost crying on the helicopters.

Scouts pack meeting - Raingutter Regatta

Ryan had a pack meeting tonight and he got to 'sail' his boat in the raingutter. He won the first race, but lost on the second race. He was not very happy, but I think losing the second race was a good lesson.

We had Ryan's birthday celebration with friends today. It didn't start until 4:00 and I thought the boys were going to drive me absolutely insane before 4:00 came, plus I still had food to prepare. Finally, I had them make up the goody bags and that gave them something to do for a little bit...they were SO excited.

Ryan's cub scout den had a firestation tour tonight...I think the kids really had a good time, they loved pretending squirting each other with the water nozel and also the station took the big ladder truck out and raised the ladder which the kids thought was really cool.

Every Friday night before a home football game, the Purdue football team walks across the walking bridge from West Lafayette to Lafayette...the kids really had fun and we were able to get some tickets to the game tomorrow to watch them play!

Monon Train Museum Field Trip

We had a field trip today to the Monon Train Museum...the kids had fun playing in a real caboose, ringing an actual bell and then having lunch in the cafe where four model trains were going around and around the dining room.

Purdue Convocation - Scrap Art

We all attended a Purdue Convocation today...it was titled Scrap Art. A group from British Columbia makes muscial instruments out of all kinds of trash or recycleable materials. Most of them were drums out of scrap metal or junk on a stick for symbols...but it was really cool, the music that they could play on instruments that cost them pretty much nothing except their time of putting them together. They also used left over PVC pipe from plumbers, dishwasher hoses, you name it and they will try to use it to make music!

Alex's last soccer practice

Alex was SO excited for his last soccer practice...he received his very first medal! He ran a lot during their practice today, he fell asleep on the way home for a few minutes, only to fight me when I went to lay him in his bed. Ryan had a soccer game at 3:30 that was delayed due to weather, so we were at the fields almost 2 hours. Alex fell asleep on the way home again, but there was no waking him this time. I laid him on the couch and I am not sure he even opened his eyes. I got dinner ready and then tried to wake him, but after 3 times finally gave up and just put him to bed at 7:00...I am praying he doesn't get up at 3:00 AM and be finished sleeping!

We went over to some friends of ours that live on a pond and the kids went fishing for the first time. Nothing big enough to keep, not that we would anyway...all the fertilizer etc running off into the pond, but the kids had fun catching and releasing. After the first 30 minutes, Alex was done, but Ryan fished for an hour or more.

Ryan was wearing white jerseys tonight...he was playing defense first half and offense the second half. He got his first touchdown ever in a game and threw another great pass, but it wasn't caught.

The first practice and game for flag football was tonight. This year they changed the age ranges to K and 1st grade play together and then 2nd and 3rd grades. Ryan is on the older end this year and seems to be enjoying it a little bit more.

The first few plays Ryan is playing quarterback...the first snap goes to the wrong team, the second and third snaps the girls are confused who is supposed to take the ball. Then Ryan is on defense the rest of the video...he is right in the middle most of the time...he always jumps up and raises the flag if he gets it.

Today was sort of a rest day or cultural day...we went to the local art museum, the local zoo and then out to eat sushi...YUM! And the boys got badly needed haircuts!

Today we went tubing down the Sugar Creek...it was a lot of fun. Alex was tethered to me and Ryan was tethered to Ron...it took us 3 1/2 hours to go 3 miles. The current wasn't very strong and there were places where it wasn't very deep and we got stuck and sometimes the wind was blowing us back upstream...but it was fun, maybe next time we'll canoe or kayak and tether the tubes for the boys to those so we go faster...Ryan kept telling Ron go faster and it was our arms making us go!

Day 1 of Vacation

We're doing a local vacation this year for several reasons...we decided to get season passes to Indiana Beach, I didn't want to leave my garden for more than a day as I have put a lot of work into it and it needs TLC every day and we don't want to board Chip, plus I am afraid he might freak out if we take him with us somewhere as he is no longer able to see anything.

Today we went to Indiana Beach, Ron and Ryan enjoyed the water slides, Alex ran through a few of the water fountains and then was ready to ride 'his' rides. Alex rode the kiddie rides, while Ron and Ryan rode a few roller coasters, I think 10 in all. We watched the water show with jet skis, divers and ski jumps.

Last day of soccer camp

Ryan has enjoyed this week at soccer camp...I think he has learned a few things...we'll see once his soccer season starts. Yesterday, he came home and said that now they needed a flag or shirt with their 'team country' on it. His team was Japan, so that was easy to make a shirt like Japan's flag. He's the only one on his team with a white shirt and a red dot...some just wore their tie-dye shirts.

Alex and I went for the last part of today's camp...at least the weather has cooled off the last two days!

Soccer Camp Coaches Game

The coaches for the soccer camp were playing the coaches of the local youth league, so Ryan wanted to go and watch his coaches from camp. It was pretty fun to watch an adult game. That was the first game I saw in person other than Ryan's games. The camp coaches won 2-1

Hot again! When I picked Ryan up today, I overheard some other moms talking about color of shirt, that some had to go out and buy a shirt as their child didn't have a certain color. I asked Ryan about it and he said that each team that they had given a country name was supposed to wear a certain color so they could tell their teammates when they played. Ryan's color was tie-dye..oh great, where do I find a tie-dye shirt? Good news, we had purchased shirts and a kit last summer, but forgot to make them....guess what we did this afternoon? It was kinda fun!

Soccer camp - day 1

Ryan wanted to go to the British soccer camp this week...oh, it's so hot and humid. I was just standing around for an hour and a half and was totally soaked from the heat...the camp is for 3 hours in the mornings, I can't imagine the kids that go all day until 3:00 PM. It was so hot and they filled Ryan's soccer ball too full of air that it exploded...even ripped the Menards recycle bag that he had it in!

I was sitting at my computer this evening and saw something out of the corner of my eye move and here was a deer walking by only about 25 feet from the house. He continued to just walked on down the front of the house, crossed our driveway and into the neighnors yard...wasn't scared at all.

I took a nap on the couch this afternoon and Alex came over and laid with me and fell asleep too. When I got up, he was still sleeping on the edge of the couch, so I put a few blankets below him in case he fell off...sure enough he fell off onto the blankets, but kept on sleeping!

Indiana Beach

It has been hot, so where better to go cool off than Indiana Beach. We checked out the rides a couple of weeks ago when it was only in the 80s, so now that it is in the mid 90s with heat index of 110, lets go in the water. Alex and I started off in the lazy river, Ryan and Ron started off on the water slides (Alex is too short yet), then we saw the slide was open that Alex could go on, so we tried it...he didn't like it. He and I went together, but it was enclosed, dark and HOT. So we went back to the lazy river, then I convinced Alex to try the lake part, it went from 0 to 4 feet, he had a blast running in the water from one end of the 2+ feet of water to the other with me chasing him.

I try to get their pictures taken around their birthdays, so I have annual picture for them...you can't see any orneriness in these pictures!

Indiana Beach

We decided this year we are going to hang out around here for vacation, so we got season passes to Indiana Beach. Today we went to the amusement ride part, next time we'll try out the water park. The boys had a blast...that was after we got to the kiddie rides for Alex. Ryan wanted to ride the Tilt O Whirl and Alex was tall enough to ride with me, so we all went...shortly after it started he started crying and wanted off...coarse I did too. We stayed on the slower rides after that and he did great!

Baseball camp awards

At the end of camp, they were presenting awards for a few contests that they had during the week. I really didn't think Ryan would get one, as he was on the younger end of the boys that were there, but I decided to record it anyway, just in case he did get something....he has been practicing hard at home and is doing pretty well. To my surprise, he won first place in throwing...you can fast forward to closer to the end for Ryan's award.

Ryan's baseball camp scrimmage

ryan was at baseball camp all this week, for the final day, they split the kids up into two teams and had a scrimmage. My video got out of sequence, the one play where Ryan was on third and going back and forth was actually the last play of the game and the catcher (high school helper) had the ball and on the coaches was trying to get Ryan to steal home plate. The catcher finally 'miss threw' the ball and Ryan made it home to tie the game...(wink, wink!)

Here are all the boys of the camp along with the coach for Central Catholic and a few of the high school players that had just won the state tournament last Friday night. The trophy is from wimming state.

Alex's pacifier present

After not using the pacifier for 7 days Alex got to pick out a present...he chose a nerf gun.

3" of rain in 30 minutes

I am not sure exactly how much rain we got this morning, it was around 3" in a very short amount of time. One time I looked out and there was water standing around the entire parameter of our property.

Baseball trophies

Ryan wanted me to take a picture of him with his new trophy and then with all the trophies he has received so far for baseball. All bobbleheads!
